The Jesus Book is a Texas pastor’s attempt to help Christians understand the Bible

A Texas pastor wants to help people better apply the Bible’s lessons in their lives by a new book “The Jesus Book: Reading and Understanding the Bible for You.”

“The subtitle really says it all — reading and understanding the Bible on your own,” Jack Graham told Fox News Digital in a phone interview ahead of the Nov. 5 release of his book.

Graham is the senior pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano and Prosper, Texas.

“My goal is to get people to understand what the Bible is and the basics of why we believe the Bible — why we believe it’s true and trustworthy,” he said.

In the book, Graham tells more about the history of the Bible, how it was collected and what do christians believe to be inspired by God.

Graham said the Bible “is an all-time bestseller. And yet some would say that it may be the most unread bestseller of all time. A lot of people have a Bible, but they’ve never read it.”

“The book of Jesus,” he said, is intended for both new believers and Christians who have known the Bible all their lives.

“Every Christian should understand what the Bible is telling us,” Graham said.

“Everyone can grow in their faith because of what we talk about,” he said of the book.

“The Book of Jesus” contains what Graham called the “fundamentals” of the Christian faith, describing the differences between Old Testament and the New Testament, and to explain “what the Gospel is about.”

Beyond the basics, the book “talks about manuscripts that prove the truth of Scripture, and we talk about apologetics — why you can trust the Bible — and we talk about worldview, which is a very deep topic,” he said.

One of the issues discussed in the book is how people can live out their faith in the world and “see the world through the lens of Scripture, rather than looking at Scripture through the lens of the world,” he said.

“The subject matter is broad enough that there’s something for everyone,” Graham said.

Graham has written many other books, but he told Fox News Digital that The Jesus Book is the “significant book of my life.”

“This is what I have built my life and work on, ministry which they gave me,” he said.

He said his life is “a testimony to the power of the Bible and how God’s word serves me and through me, others.”

“And there is nothing more important than Christ himself than how we know Christ,” he said.

The way to know Christ is “not through human experience,” but “through the Bible and God’s spirit working through the Bible.”

Another chapter of the book focused on meditation and interpretation of scripture, Graham said.

“When you read the Bible … God’s spirit uses His word to speak to our hearts and minds,” he said.

According to him, when a person reflects on Scripture, he begins to understand it in a different way.

“Pondering and meditating, meditating deeply on the scriptures — and it’s when we do that, I believe, when we meditate on God’s word, that we begin to understand it for ourselves and we begin to live it, and we receive a message from God,” he said.

Through The Book of Jesus, Graham hopes to inspire many people and help them better understand and to promote God’s word.

“My desire and prayer is that if anyone reads this book, they will become a defender of the message of the Bible, a messenger of the truth of the Bible, and live by the Bible,” Graham said.
