Four teenagers arrested after throwing fireworks at police and public on Bonfire Night

Four teenagers have been arrested following the ‘Night of Fire’ riots in Edinburgh, in which fireworks and projectiles were thrown at people, police and buses.

Police have confirmed that new arrests have been made as part of a criminal investigation into the “significant” disturbances on November 5.

A 16-year-old boy was charged on November 12 and two 17-year-olds were charged on November 13 in connection with the incidents in Calder Road.

All three will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 3.

A 15-year-old boy was also arrested on Wednesday following incidents on Captain’s Road where projectiles were thrown at public order officers. He will appear in court later on remand.

To date, 13 people have been charged, five homes have been searched and two vehicles have been seized following the crimes, which took place between Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Police warn that more arrests will be made as the investigation continues.

Chief Superintendent David Robertson, divisional commander in Edinburgh, said: “We want the arrests made so far to reassure our communities that we are committed to bringing those responsible for the crimes to justice.

“Among other things, they should serve as a real reminder to everyone involved that we are actively pursuing them and they can expect a visit from us in the near future.

“We still have a lot of great CCTV footage and other evidence collected on Halloween and Bonfire Night, which we’re confident will help us identify and charge more offenders in due course.

“Representatives of the public who have video or photo evidence can provide it https://mipp.police.uk/operation/SCOT24S16-PO1.”
