Jamie Oliver slams his heroes who were “so horrible” to him, talking about his long and difficult road to success

He is a celebrity chef, a global TV star, and one of the best-selling authors of all time.

But Jamie Oliver, 49, says his path to a successful career has been complicated by jealous rivals and even his “heroes”.

In a stunning confession, the chef revealed that the culinary gurus he once looked up to “tried to destroy” him.

Jamie, who shot to fame at age 25 on his own reality show Naked Chef, opened up about his past in a new interview with The Daily Telegraph.

“I“In the early days, in the first five years of my career, a lot of my characters were so horrible to me,” he said.

“Honestly, they were so jealous of my success and I was just a little boy.”

He continued: “That was the only thing I struggled with for the first five years because these people I looked up to were regularly tearing me down and they couldn’t understand why I was selling more. books than all of them put together.”

The married father of five and multi-millionaire said he partly attributes his success to “luck”.

Elsewhere in the chat, Jamie revealed that he had “always dreamed” of living and working downstairs.

He said that while he was working straight out of school at the restaurant, all his mates were already in Australia “living the life”, “drinking, fucking” and having the best time “ever”.

“I really never thought (I’d get there) – it’s literally like a dream.”

Oliver, who is married to fashion designer Juliet Norton, first shot to fame on the cooking show The Naked Chef in 1999.

He has since sold 50 million books and appeared on many other television shows, including Channel 10’s Jamie’s Kitchen Australia in 2006.

Jamie, who is currently underground, recently appeared as a judge on MasterChef 2024 in Australia.

Next month he will present a live chat about his new book Just Jamie at the Sydney Coliseum, entitled Jamie Oliver – The Joy of Cooking.

It came as Jamie and his wife Jules renewed their vows again as they celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in Las Vegas in June.

The much-loved foodie and his 49-year-old wife Jules married in 2000 and first renewed their vows in 2023 during a family trip to the Maldives.

And saying “I do” again, took to Instagram to share an album of snaps from their impulsive day to celebrate the anniversary.

Jamie and Jules also have five children; Poppy, 21, Daisy, 20, Petal, 14, Buddy, 12, and River, seven.

The couple remarried in a low-key ceremony before a tribute to Jules’ all-time favorite hitmaker, Elvis Presley.

Jules arrived at the chapel in jeans, a white blouse and cowboy boots, while Jamie opted for a dressier ensemble and wore a tailored suit.

Each couple shared tons of snaps on their social media accounts to document their memorable day.

Jules wrote: “Happy 24 crazy years of marriage together. I love you so much, thank you for indulging my LOVE for Elvis.

“I know there are three people in this marriage…but you get me like NO ONE else!

“Wait and see what I have planned for our 25th @jamieoliver”

While Jamie wrote: “Happy 24th wedding anniversary. 24 years old!!! Love you Las Vegas baby!! much love, lots of fun, Jamie XXX.
