Second suspect arrested in North Linden slaying of 13-year-old boy

COLUMBUS, OH (WCMH) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in northeast Columbus this spring.

The arrest was made Thursday following an investigation, according to court documents death of Angel Diaz led Columbus police to 21-year-old Doc Parker Jr., who was already on probation after several Franklin County convictions.

Police said Parker, along with Javon Jones, who was arrested in June, were among at least four people in a white Ford Escape seen on surveillance video driving on Medina Avenue near East Hudson Street on April 14 when shots rang out. shot from the car.

Investigators began looking for surveillance cameras between 8:15 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. and found evidence of a “muzzle blast” coming from the SUV. ShotSpotter technology showed the shots were recorded from where Parker and Jones were allegedly driving at 15 mph, and a witness also saw shots fired from the car.

Diaz, 13, was found about 10:15 p.m. in an alley behind East Hudson Street with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m., and officers noted that a white 2008-2012 Ford Escape with a black bumper and temporary tags had been seen in the area that night.

Investigation led the police to Joneswho denied the shooting but admitted to being in the car. Although he claimed he was alone, the footage showed at least four people in the Ford.

Search warrants showed that Jones’ cell phone location data, along with Parker’s phone data, were transmitted together using the same cell towers. Additional phone data showed a video of two people in a Ford Escape posing with guns. One of the guns had a “switch” attached to it, police said, linking the gun to shots fired at the scene that night.

A Franklin County Municipal Court judge granted Jones a $1.5 million bond in June, and Parker, also charged with murder, was granted a $2 million bond in court Friday morning. Parker Jr., who has previous convictions for assault and multiple weapons charges, is next scheduled to appear in court Nov. 1 for a preliminary hearing.
