China’s leader has a new military secretary, according to a video of the visit of missile troops on state television

Xi Jinping appears to have a new military secretary, judging by government footage of the Chinese president’s recent inspection visits to People’s Liberation Army units
Lieutenant General Fang Yunxiang, 58, was part of the group accompanying Xi. during his visit to an unspecified brigade of elite missile forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces last week.

Footage released by state broadcaster CCTV on Saturday showed Fan standing at arm’s length as Xi spoke to several senior commanders at a base in southeastern Anhui province.

A close-up shot showed Fan, along with General Zhang Yuxia, China’s highest-ranking military official in uniform, to be the only two generals besides Xi not wearing missile force uniforms.

Fan was also seen next to Xi on CCTV footage during his visit to the April Military Medical University in the southwestern city of Chongqing.

In this video, Fan is standing next to He Weidong, the second-ranking vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), the body in charge of China’s armed forces. Zhang is first deputy chairman in the CMC, which is chaired by Xi.
