The latest flood in Spain: looting began, the number of flood victims exceeded 150 | World news

As noted in our post of 07/09, although heavy rain is expected over the next two days in the same areas of eastern Spain already affected by flooding, warnings are in effect for other areas of the country.

Among them is Seville, located in the southwest of Spain.

While there have been no major weather-related incidents in the city in recent days, authorities are said to be closely monitoring the levels of the Guadeira River between the Andalusian capital Alcalá de Guadeira and the Cormones River as it flows through Carmona.

Government official Francisco Toscano said the level of the Guadaira River “is at an orange level and rising,” El Pais reported.

The newspaper explains that the orange level indicates that the river has reached its threshold, and this amount of rain could cause a “dangerous” event.

The next level, red, indicates that the river has exceeded its maximum limits and flooding is possible.

“We have consulted with civil protection about the possibility of closing traffic on one of the bridges due to flooding, but the level is falling,” Jesus Mora, representative of the urban development of Alcalade Guadair, told El Pais.

Another official told the newspaper that the Corbones River had reached a “historic high” in its flow in the section corresponding to Carmona.

It is reported that emergency calls came from nearby housing estates after the water blocked entrances and exits.

A yellow warning is in effect for most of the province of Seville until 6pm local time (5am UK).
