Teen charged with DUI after breaking into nail shop, police say

ATLANTAAtlanta police say a 17-year-old boy suspected of driving under the influence was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a Buckhead nail shop over the weekend. It happened early Sunday morning as many celebrated early on the eve of Halloween.

The teenager now faces multiple charges, including a DUI for crashing the car he was driving into the wall of Hammond Nails and Spa.

It was a terrifying sight for Andy Tran, who says he was stunned to see the front wall of his business reduced to rubble on Sunday morning.

“I was just sitting in the middle of the whole thing. I literally just sat down and in the middle of the destruction it was like something that just happened,” Tran recalls.

Atlanta police units responded to a one-vehicle crash at a nail salon on Roswell Road around 1:45 a.m.

The video of the surveillance camera from the enterprise shows the moment when the car crashed into the building.

“Glass and debris flew all the way to the back of the cabin … destroyed polish racks, air tables, air drying tables,” Tran explained. “Whoever it was took out like a cinder block column … the next block has ceiling damage, the walls, my ceilings are damaged,” he added.

Police officers say that the 17-year-old boy who was driving the car was intoxicated. The teenager was arrested and charged with DUI, driving without a license, driving without a license and failure to notify the owner of hitting an immovable object.

“You’re destroying businesses … you’re affecting families when you’re out there and you’re just not being responsible,” Tran said.

The police say that no one was seriously injured. While he told FOX 5 he’s thankful they were able to get back up and running quickly, it’s likely the damage will cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair, in addition to replacing the salon’s cosmetics that were affected.

The company operates on a regular schedule. Tran urges everyone who celebrates All Saints’ Eve to do so responsibly.
