Indian police have changed their stance on the identity of Saif Ali Khan’s assailant

Indian police have changed their statement about the identity of the man accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.

The suspect, initially identified as 31-year-old Akash Kanojia, was arrested while traveling from Chhattisgarh to Mumbai.

However, new Indian media reports claim that the suspect is actually a Bangladeshi national named Mohammad Sharif Islam.

After the attack, Indian media initially reported that the suspect was a Hindu named Akash Kanojia.

However, according to new police statements, he is allegedly a “Bangladeshi Muslim” who entered India illegally and used multiple identities, including Bijoy Das, Vijay Das, Mohammad Ilyas and BJ.

Police sources said the suspect was working with an economic agency in Thane and was arrested near the metro construction site in Hiranandani Estate.

According to reports, he has been working at various locations in Mumbai and Thane for the past seven to eight months.

Additionally, authorities say that after the attack on Saif Ali Khan, the suspect turned off his phone and changed his location to stay updated on the news.

Earlier, the first photos and footage of the suspect appeared entered Saif Ali Khan’s house in Bandra and was attacked, the actor was reportedly stabbed six times, sustaining injuries to his arm, neck and spine.

The suspect entered an area adjacent to Khan’s building and scaled a wall to gain access. He then used the stairs at the back to go up to the floors of Khan’s apartment and entered via the fire escape.

The suspect was caught on surveillance cameras at 2:33 a.m. Thursday on the steps of Khan’s home. In the photo, he is wearing a t-shirt and jeans, holding a backpack and what looks like an orange scarf over his shoulder.

The video shows him coming down the stairs and looking directly into the camera.

Khan’s domestic help, Eliama Phillips, alias Lim, spotted the suspect and alerted Khan, who confronted the assailant and tried to fight him off. The suspect stabbed Khan six times, injuring his left arm, neck and spine. Two more housewives were also injured in the attack.

Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the knife stuck in his spine. Doctors said he is stable and out of danger.
