An intoxicated man has been arrested after he allegedly set fire to a petrol station in Hyderabad, causing panic among people, according to a report. NDTV with reference to officials.

According to the report, the incident took place around 7 pm when the accused, identified as Chiran, arrived at the petrol station in a clearly drunken state. Holding a lighter in his hand, one of the gas station workers asked him to light the device if “he has the courage to do it.”

Accused Chiran, who was provoked by the man, instantly lit the lighter, which resulted in a sudden burst of flames. A recording of the incident from video surveillance cameras is spreading on the Internet.

The footage also shows a woman and her child who narrowly escaped as they were frightened by the mischief. The duo, the main accused and the employee who incited him, were arrested by the police and charged with hooliganism involving fire and explosives.

Both the accused are reported to be from Bihar.

“This dangerous act not only endangered lives but could have caused a catastrophic explosion, especially in this crowded area with heavy traffic,” Inspector G Rudveer Kumar of the Nacharam police was quoted as saying. NDTV.
