A local photographer captured a magical sight on a Venetian ferry

Local talent Lorella Castillo strikes again, capturing surreal images of the world around us.

As she waited for the ferry to take her to the Venice Biennale, Castillo said her mind was already in the realm of art, as it usually is in such an artistic place.

“Then this gentleman came in, sat down, opened his newspaper and completely absorbed it,” Castillo said in a Facebook post. “The warm, soft afternoon light surrounded him, creating a moment that seemed almost magical.”

The cogs in Castillo’s brain seemed to start turning as she quickly seized the moment and developed something “like a scene from a movie.”

“His bright red headdress and yellow bag caught my eye, creating a great color combination,” she continued. “I tried to create it so that it was balanced and harmonious.”

The fruits of her labor are evident, successfully capturing the warmth of the scene, further immersing us in the moment.

“For that moment, I forgot about the Biennale and lost myself in the beauty of this simple moment,” concluded Lorella. Venice had such a way of conquering my heart.”

Earlier this year, Castillo wowed the nation by using her talents to create satirical San Douma and San Ixegluthe patron saints of all things awkward in Malta.

From satire to surrealism, this photographer simply never misses a beat.
