Canadian Soccer: Atlético Ottawa will play in the playoff quarterfinals on Sunday

On Sunday, Atlético Ottawa will try to win the Polar Star Cup for the first time.

In the quarter-finals of the playoffs of the Canadian Premier League, the team will play against “York United” at home. Game time is 1:00 p.m at TD Place Stadium.

This will be Atlético’s last home game of the season.

“If you live in Ottawa and want to see one of your teams in the playoffs, this is it,” Atlético Ottawa spokesman John Seiden said on CTV Morning Live.

“So if you like the playoffs and sports, there’s no reason not to be here.”

Saiden says an “infectious” crowd and “first class” football are expected.

“We have an amazing group of fans – they make noise, bring drums, stand and sing the whole game,” he said.

It is also the last home game for the Atlético captain and Gatineau native Maxim Tissot after a 12-year career, including six in Ottawa.

The team honored Tissot in the final game of the regular season last week.

“We have incredible talent. We have a great team and judging by what our retired Gatineau captain Max Tissot said, “we are a team built for the playoffs,” Seiden said.

The winner will earn the right to play in the semi-final against FC Forge or FC Cavalry on November 2 or 3.

The CPL final will be held on November 9.

Atlético finished the regular season in third place in the CPL standings with 11 wins, 11 draws and six losses.

Sunday is expected to be sunny but cold with temperatures in the single digits.
