North County Democratic Party headquarters restricts regular hours due to ‘anticipated threats’

The North County Democratic Party headquarters office has limited their normal meeting hours only because they are perceived to be threatened.

“I changed the wording on that sign and at the last minute the wording was probably too strong,” said Gloria, a member of the North County Democratic Party staff. “The wording probably should have been more ‘perceived threats’ or perhaps ‘perceived attempts at intimidation.’

Gloria told KSBY that their headquarters had received threats.

She added that a truck released its exhaust in front of several members at a recent rally on Spring Street, and it happened again Friday night.

“At a rally three weeks ago, there were a lot of old people like me on the street and a silver diesel truck came and put the car in neutral and there was a big old black smoke coming out of it,” she said. “Four days have passed. headache, sinus infection, so yeah, I’d call it a pretty strong scare.”

Brett Knapfer, a member of the North County Democratic Party headquarters, said they have received phone calls to headquarters from people who may be on the opposite side.

“People who we know are not our supporters have called our office and asked about our hours and when they can come see us,” Knupfer said. “Members of our office staff felt that they were in situations where people were trying to set up possible harassment in the office.”

KSBY spoke with the Paso Robles Police Department and asked generally how their investigation would proceed if an incident occurs at a campaign rally.

“Obviously, they want people to be able to express their political views, which is their right, as long as they’re obviously acting within the law,” said Sgt. Reid Heckner, Paso Robles Police Department. “If there was ever an incident from the opposite perspective, we would investigate that incident and take whatever action is necessary.”

KSBY asked Randall Jordan, chairman of the San Luis Obispo Republican Party, if they had received any threats from the opposite party.

“People who are on the left side of our political position have come to our headquarters — actually challenged us and said they don’t think we have a moral compass,” Jordan said. “That we haven’t taken into account a lot of things, like global warming, things like that, but not any real threats, and I don’t think I can recall anybody coming and saying they’re going to do us any harm.” “.
