Man charged with assaulting reporter, saying ‘This is Trump’s America now’

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (KKCO/Grey News ) – A man is accused of strangling a reporter during a racist attack outside a news station in Colorado last month.

Patrick Egan, 39, followed the KKCO reporter for several miles, according to police. When they reached the news station, Egan allegedly lunged at the victim, grabbed her and began choking her until several KKCO employees restrained him.

During the attack, Egan questioned the reporter’s citizenship and said, “This is Trump’s America now,” according to police.

During a second appearance in court Thursday, Egan’s legal counsel said Egan was unlikely to commit a similar attack again, but the judge said Egan had several criminal records in California citing several similar crimes and misdemeanors.

Egan’s bond was set at $20,000, which was posted Friday, and he was released.

Egan is not allowed to approach the victim within 100 yards. The judge also advised Eagan to be “over the top” when reporters are present.

Egan faces multiple charges including bias crimes, 2nd degree assault by strangulation and stalking and ethnic intimidation.
