A 9-year-old girl was killed in a horrific crash in Thembisa on Wednesday morning, and now charges have been laid against PSL star Shaun Mogaila, who reportedly fled the scene. This shocking incident has shaken the community as details continue to emerge.

Car associated with Sekhukhune United star

Authorities confirm that the abandoned car found at the scene of the crash belongs to Sean Mogaili, a 29-year-old player for Sekhune United. Witnesses reported the crash around 7:30 a.m. on Andrew Maffeto Road, where a mother and her 13-year-old daughter were trapped inside the car. The rescuers quickly took them to the nearest medical facilities, but the tragedy unfolded when the younger girl died of her injuries at the scene.

The police found disturbing evidence

Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato provided further details of the investigation. “When we arrived at the scene, we found four bottles of Don Julio alcohol and powder that we suspect may be cocaine, as well as edible grass in his vehicle,” McGato said. The investigation established that at the time of the tragic accident, the female driver was transporting her daughter.

Makgato confirmed that the authorities have opened a case of manslaughter, reckless and negligent driving and leaving the scene of an accident at the Tembisa South Police Station.

Mogaila’s recent performance is under scrutiny

Just a day before this tragic event, Sean Mogaila was playing for Sekhune United wearing the number 12 shirt during a match against Richards Bay at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. The team won 2-0 with goals from Siphesile Mkhize and Sipho Mbule. Sekhukhune United are currently third in the Betway Premiership table, having won three of their first five matches.

More recently, Marumo Gallants star Gabadinho Mango, known for his time with Orlando Pirates, has put his football career in serious jeopardy. Mango crashed his Polo TSI into a Toyota Quantum while under the influence of alcohol in Bloemfontein. The witness also reported that there were four female passengers in the former Orlando Pirates player’s car.

The 32-year-old Malawi striker was suspended by his previous clubs, Amazulu and Swallows, for turning up to work drunk.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life, the aftermath of this incident continues to unfold, raising serious questions about liability and road safety.
