Filing of a formal appeal against Cuyahoga County property assessments begins on January 1st

Cuyahoga County property owners who wish to appeal their property assessment for the 2024 tax year can do so beginning Jan. 1.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Review will accept formal complaints from Jan. 1 through 11:59 p.m. March 31, according to a news release.

All complaints must be submitted to the Review Board by 11:59 p.m. or postmarked as of March 31, according to the release.

There are several ways to file a complaint:

• Complaints can be submitted online using a valid email address, bypassing the notary requirement.

• Print a hard copy of the complaint form that requires notarization.

• Contact the Board of Review at 216-443-7195 to request a complaint form.

• Pick up a complaint form at the Board of Review office, located at 2079 E. Ninth St., Second Floor, Cleveland.

When filing a formal assessment complaint, property owners must provide a report of value and documentation to support their claim, which may include, but not be limited to, a complete assessment report for the last calendar year, dated photographs of the property showing the existing condition. , a certified estimate of the repair contractor, a sales contract with a final deed, and the cost of new construction, certified by the developer — hard and soft costs.

According to the notice, this evidence does not have to be provided at the time of the complaint, but can be provided up to seven working days before the scheduled hearing.
