At least 12 people were killed in an explosion at a Turkish weapons factory

ISTANBUL. An explosion at an arms factory in northwestern Turkey killed at least 12 people and injured four on Tuesday morning.

According to the state agency Anadolu, the explosion occurred at a factory for the production of capsules in the province of Balikesir.

Governor Balikesir Ismail Ustaoglu said the blast hit the capsule manufacturing building and that surrounding buildings sustained minor damage.

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc wrote on the X social media platform that four prosecutors have been assigned to investigate the causes of the explosion.
