A baby gorilla dressed in a tiny T-shirt was rescued from a smuggling attempt at Istanbul airport. Turkish authorities intercepted the missing animal on its way from Nigeria to Thailand.

A video of Turkish authorities rescuing a baby gorilla being smuggled without documents was released by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on X.

The video showed the shocking condition of the baby gorilla. The video shows officials carefully removing the gorilla from the crate and feeding it from a baby bottle. The gorilla is visibly upset, but responsive, and is now under close observation.

Customs law enforcement teams tracked the illegal cargo as part of an ongoing wildlife protection initiative. The crate was seized and authorities confirmed the gorilla was not properly documented, which violated international wildlife trafficking laws.

“The health condition of the baby gorilla is improving, but it remains under observation,” the ministry said in a statement. Currently, the animal is being cared for by national park staff, although the place of residence has not yet been determined.
