Feds look into prison where Diddy is being held, lawyers say ‘terrible’

The federal government is launching an “interagency operation” at the Metropolitan Detention Complex in Brooklyn, where Sean “Diddy” Combs is being held in custody, which his lawyers previously described as “appalling” in a court filing.

In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Prisons tells PEOPLE that the agency is conducting the operation along with the US Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General and other law enforcement agencies.

The operation is part of an effort to improve conditions and maintain “a safe environment for both our staff and inmates housed at MDC Brooklyn,” the bureau said.

“This operation was pre-planned and there is no real threat,” the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement. “In order to ensure the safety and security of all personnel within the facility and the integrity of this operation, we are unable to provide additional information at this time. We will provide additional information after the transaction is complete.”

Combs, who is accused of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation for the purpose of prostitutionis being held at MDC Brooklyn after two judges denied his bail request.

In a rejected bail bid, Combs’ lawyers said the facility was “unsuitable for pretrial detention” and called the conditions “appalling.”

After appearing in court on Oct. 10, attorney Mark Anyifilo was asked what the mogul’s biggest adjustment to being behind bars has been.

“I think the food is probably the worst part” – said Anyifilo.

Located in the same part of the facility as Combs Sam Bankman-Friedthe convicted fraudster who founded FTX, sources previously told PEOPLE.

“(Combs) is being treated like any other detainee awaiting trial,” a the source said. “Like all public figures in his position, after entering the institution, he was placed under the control of suicide bombers as a precautionary measure.”

If convicted on all counts, Combs could spend the rest of his life in prison.
