JUST IN: Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Heg

Manchester United sacked Erik ten Heg a day after the club’s 2-1 defeat by West Ham.

Two seasons later, the 54-year-old manager was shown the door after replacing Ralf Rangnick ahead of the 2022/23 season – a move many didn’t think would make it this far.

In fact, he would have been told to leave months earlier had he not led his side to FA Cup victory this May.

The Dutchman was leading Manchester United relegated eighty-five times, winning forty-four times, bringing home two league cups during his tenure.

It ends the messy relationship between manager, club and fans; He seemed to have all the tools, signings, and personnel one could dream of, but he could never win on a consistent basis.

For Manchester United, defeat at West Ham, aptly nicknamed ‘El Sakico’, was the final straw, dropping them to fourteenth place, twelve points off the top.

They also need help in the Europa League, where they sit 21st (out of 36 teams).

One Dutchman left, another entered

Club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who recently joined the Ten Hag as assistant manager, will be interim manager until further notice; however, if he can turn that around, the job could be his.

Statement by Manchester United

Manchester United confirmed news on their website:

“Erik ten Hag has left his position as the head coach of Manchester United.

“Eric was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Eric for all he has done during his time with us and wish him well in the future.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching staff, while a permanent head coach will be recruited.
