A traffic police officer died at the checkpoint

A traffic police officer died after hitting a roadblock on the N2 near Caribbean Estates, Port Edward on Tuesday last week.

A manslaughter case has been opened in Port Edward Saps after 55-year-old municipal law enforcement officer Ray Nkonyeni was knocked down, police have confirmed.

Officer Nobubele Mntonitshi was stopping the car at the roadblock when the accident happened. While the injured policewoman was being transported to the hospital, she died from her injuries.

The police added that no one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
