Mumbai: Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, husband of superstar Nayanthara, has stepped back from social media by deactivating his X (formerly Twitter) account. This decision was taken against the background of heated controversy surrounding the broadcast of the documentary Nayantara: Beyond the fairy tale and his own appearance at a recent roundtable discussion on pan-Indian films.

Vignesh came under fire after users criticized his comments on the roundtable. Internet searches quickly pointed out that his latest film, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhaland his future project, Insurance company “Lyubov”.cannot be qualified as pan-India enterprises. Although his Instagram remains active, Vignesh is yet to comment on the deactivation of X’s account.

Recently, Nayanthara made headlines for her public spat with Tamil superstar Dhanush. The controversy centers around Naanum Rowdy Dhana film directed by Vignesh starring Nayanthara and Dhanush.

Dhanush has reportedly sent an official notice to block certain clips and songs from the film used in Beyond the fairy tale claiming that they do not have permission. The move sparked a backlash from Nayanthara, who posted a powerful open letter on Instagram calling out Dhanush’s actions.

“An established actor like you, with the support and blessings of your father and brother, the greatest director, should understand this,” she wrote.

“Cinema, as we all know, is a struggle for survival for people like me, an amateur woman with no connections in the industry. I owe my position to my work ethic and the kindness of my audience,” she added.

Nayanthara said that after two years of legal wrangling over the No Objection Certificate (NOC), her team eventually decided to re-edit the documentary and remove the disputed clips.

“We finally decided to settle for the current version because he refused to allow use Naanum Rowdy Dhan songs or visual clips,” she explained.
