Couple Arrested During Mayte Car Chase | Guam news

A Guam Police Department officer caught up with a suspect who allegedly drove past his patrol car and drove straight through a stop sign and oncoming traffic on Highway 8 in Maita.

The incident happened on November 25 shortly after police received reports of a “physical altercation” in the parking lot of the Maite apartment complex around 3 p.m.

“It was reported that several people participated in it, one of whom had a knife with which he pierced the wheels of a car in the parking lot. After a while, the police received information that the participants in the quarrel left the apartment in a burgundy Honda sedan without license plates,” – says the statements

According to the complaint, a GPD unit observed the vehicle on Route 8 in Meite while on patrol.

“The officer’s patrol car was stationary when he spotted the Honda and he watched as the occupants of the (Honda) turned to look at the police car and then sped off as it passed the officer, ignoring the stop sign and oncoming traffic as it was done yes,” the complaint states.

The chase began.

“(The officer) activated his vehicle’s hazard lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, whereupon the Honda immediately pulled into the parking lot, sped through it and turned left onto another street,” the complaint states. .

A second officer joined the chase.

“(The officer) who arrived on scene was approaching the Honda from the opposite direction. (The officer) reported that the Honda accelerated as it approached him, nearly causing a head-on collision. To avoid the collision, the officer made a sharp right turn from Honda,” the statement said.

The vehicle did not stop until it collided with a parked car in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

According to the complaint, there were three people in the car.

“The driver, identified as Ramon Jose Villagomez Castro, exited the Honda along with two passengers, identified as Ignacia Cruz and Tobias Cruz. Tobias (Cruz) was cleared of suspicion and allowed to leave the scene, and Ignacia (Cruz) was later arrested. and jailed for drug crime, Castro obeys police orders to lie on the ground, and he was detained without further incident,” the report said.

Castro was charged with eluding a police officer and reckless conduct, both misdemeanors.

Castro’s criminal history report indicates he has a pending 2022 complaint of theft of property and criminal mischief. He also has previous convictions for domestic violence and child abuse.

At the time of his arrest during the car chase, there were at least two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

His hearing was continued on November 27.

Ignacia Cruz was holding a black purse as she exited the vehicle, according to the complaint, which said she walked to another vehicle where she placed her purse before following several commands to stop.

Although Ignacia Cruz took possession of the wallet, she claimed the contents belonged to Castro, according to police.

“(The officer) observed (Ignacia) Cruz remove the wallet from her before throwing it away. So, to determine if he should take it for inventory, he asked again if this wallet belonged to (Ignacia) Cruz. She said he did, but repeated that its contents belonged to Castro (Ignacia) Cruz gave police permission to search the purse, stating that the third time everything found inside did not belong to her,” the complaint states.

Inside the purse, police found a clear, resealable bag containing a white, crystalline substance, believed to be methamphetamine. They also found a clear glass pipe with brown residue.

“At the station, officers used a Mistral Group 164 meth test kit to conduct a field test on the white crystalline substance found in the bag. The test gave a probable positive result for the presence of methamphetamine,” the complaint states.

(Ignacia) Cruz, who was arrested at the scene of the crime, according to police, has already been arrested.

“She had a previous conviction for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. … (Ignacia) Cruz was on pretrial release in two felony cases … where she was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance,” the charges state in the documents.

(Ignacia) Cruz was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony with a separate charge of felony offense committed after release on November 27.

She was taken into custody on $5,000 bail.
