Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police arrested 18 people for rioting, assault and criminal intimidation on Saturday, almost a week after a 19-year-old law student was allegedly attacked by a group of people outside a private college over an argument that broke out during a freshers’ party October 19.

Police have identified the victim as Oma Choudhary, a resident of Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in law from a private college in Ghaziabad.

In a police complaint filed at the Indirapuram police station on October 22, the victim’s father, Vinod Chaudhary, said that on October 19, his son “Om went to a college fresher’s party and accidentally splashed water on another student’s clothes. The problem escalated, a sharp dispute arose.”

“The next day, the same student called Om to apologize. As demanded, Om apologized to the other students and this was recorded on video. Despite the public apology, two days after the incident on October 22, when Om was returning home with a friend, he was accosted by a group of 20-25 people at the college gate and brutally beaten,” the first news report registered later said. based on a complaint.
