Two charged in Schenectady County drug scheme | News

ALBANY. Two men face federal drug charges accused of a drug distribution scheme in Schenectady County.

Michael Garcia, 27, of California, and Terence Butler, 36, of Schenectady, face one federal count each of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, according to the federal indictment.

The indictment was handed over on November 21.

The two are charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances between July 2022 and April 2024, according to the indictment.

According to the indictment, Garcia is charged with possession of 500 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine, 400 grams or more of a mixture containing fentanyl and 500 grams or more of a mixture containing cocaine.

According to the indictment, Butler is charged with possession of 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a certain amount of cocaine.

The indictment does not provide further details about the charges.

Prosecutors did not request that Butler be held in custody pending trial. He was released on conditions after a hearing.

Prosecutors demanded that Garcia be held in custody pending trial. The hearing was scheduled for Wednesday. The results of that hearing were not available Friday.
