A Brooklyn man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy in a child trafficking case

Newark, New Jersey — A Brooklyn man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit child sex trafficking, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Philip R. Selinger.

Souib Butcher, 30, pleaded guilty in federal court in Newark to one count of conspiracy to sexually traffic a minor. The indictment was filed before U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbearz.

Court documents show Butcher took the victim on a train to New York in August 2019, where he ordered the victim to perform sexual acts in exchange for money. A few days later, he drove the victim to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she lived with Butcher and a co-conspirator in a series of motel rooms from August 2019 to January 2020.

The conspirator posted online ads with the victim’s image and, with Butcher, arranged for clients to meet the victim at motels in exchange for money.

Butcher faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The announcement of the sentence is scheduled for February 19, 2025.

The case was investigated by FBI Special Agents under the direction of Acting Special Agent Nelson I. Delgado in Newark.
