The 16-year-old was charged

A Five Points teenager allegedly fled from authorities in a stolen vehicle before crashing on Charter Drive Tuesday afternoon, according to the Valley Police Department.

The 16-year-old suspect was charged with possession of stolen property. He remains at East Alabama Medical Center in Lanier, where he continues to receive treatment — as of noon Tuesday — for injuries he suffered in the crash, authorities said.

Once released, the 16-year-old will be taken to the Valley Police Department for processing and booked into a juvenile facility. His name has not been released due to his age.

The driver of the second vehicle was hospitalized in the same hospital with minor injuries.

Valley Police said they were called to the area of ​​Charter Drive and 20th Avenue around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a crash. During the response, the police found out that one of the vehicles was stolen. According to Valley Police, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies had pursued the vehicle earlier but stopped before crossing the Alabama state line.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies were returning to their jurisdiction when they saw the aftermath of the crash on Charter Drive, police said. The stolen car collided with another car. Police arrested the driver of the stolen car on 19th Avenue a short time later and identified him as the 16-year-old suspect.

The car he was driving was reported stolen out of Roanoke.

In a news release, Valley Police thanked the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this ongoing investigation. No additional details were immediately released.
