Horrifying moment: Truck crashes into car that’s stopped in the middle of a freeway…but drivers STILL don’t know who’s at fault

SHOCKING footage has shown the moment a lorry crashed into a stationary car in the median of a motorway.

Sparks flew and the car went off the road

The dash cam shows a huge red truck speeding towards a car that has stopped on the road.

A few seconds before the accident, you can see how the car briefly indicated, but did not move to another lane.

The truck did not brake and crashed into a car at speed.

As a result of the impact, the crushed car flew off the road onto the side of the road.

“Fault on the red car suddenly parked in the middle of the road,” wrote one user on X.

“100% car. A semi can’t stop at those speeds that fast. It came to a complete stop in the middle of the interstate.”

Others speculated that the red car might have broken down or been involved in an emergency.

But someone disagreed, adding: “No. The truck had to keep a safe distance, and, for example, the red car could have a sudden engine failure. The truck driver was distracted.”

“If the truck driver cannot stop in time, he is going too fast. In this case, it seems as if he simply did not pay attention,” echoes another.

Defending the truck driver, one wrote: “Truck is no faster than other vehicles so probably not speeding. I would have had little time to realize that the car was not moving, especially without the hazard lights on and in the center lane.

Rules for stopping on the highway

According to the Traffic Rules…

You MUST NOT stop on any carriageway, emergency area, kerb, kerb, central reservation or kerb, except:

  • In an emergency
  • At the direction of the police, traffic police inspectors, an emergency sign or a red flashing light.

Do not stop on any part of the motorway to make or receive mobile phone calls, except in an emergency.

“It’s probably more dangerous to drive in the lane or brake hard, especially if you’re carrying a heavy load.”

According to Rule 271 of the Road Traffic Code, you must not stop on any carriageway, emergency section, emergency area, kerb, kerb, central reservation or shoulder, except in an emergency or when directed to do so by the police, traffic officers, emergency sign or red flashing light signals.

The basic rule in Great Britain is that the driver who gets into another car is at fault.

Rule No. 126 of the Road Traffic Rules states that motorists must drive at a speed that allows enough time to stop.

The RAC says that: “An insurance company is unlikely to make a liability decision in favor of anyone who has rear-ended a car in front of them. More often than not, if you rear-end someone, it will be classified as your fault.”
