Jake Paul “broke a rule” in the fight with Mike Tyson, which gave him a “huge advantage” | Boxing sport

Former boxing champion Tony Bellew has launched a scathing attack on Jake Paul and accused him of wearing “full punching gloves” during his triumph against Mike Tyson.

An internet personality turned boxing bested an iconic boxer in a showdown in Texas over the weekend.

Despite the fact that Paul hinted at a knockout, he only managed to win over the 58-year-old athlete. The bout was largely dominated by Paul, with Tyson landing just 18 punches to Paul’s 78.

However, Bellew, a former WBC heavyweight champion, believes Paul’s choice of gloves gave him an unfair advantage.

On X (formerly Twitter), Bellew commented: “Mike’s gloves look heavily padded and Jake’s got a gauntlet full of punches. There is a huge difference in the gloves and I’m only watching from bed. “

In addition, Bellew tore up the very idea of a fight: “We’re all to blame for this man! We are all talking and watching! We have to stop this fool (Paul)!

“Don’t buy into him until he fights someone who’s healthy and not a grandpa! Any good boxer who’s helping Paul needs to look at himself! It’s just sad.”

Despite his annoyance with Paul, Bellew acknowledged a measure of respect for the younger fighter. Paul, 27, said after the fight that he held back to prevent serious damage to Tyson.

Bellew commented, “I don’t like that stupid idiot, but I will say this…he stopped beating Mike there and showed him some respect and dignity by letting him live. He didn’t go for the knockout there, he walked away from him and left him.”

Following the fight, both fighters received mandatory suspensions from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation with a required 24-day rest period due to the length of the fight.

Despite this, both are already planning to return to the ring, with Paul planning a fight against Canelo Alvarez and Tyson challenging his brother Logan.
