The former Pittsfield resident has pleaded not guilty to murder

A former Pittsfield man pleaded not guilty Friday to murdering a Massachusetts man.

42-year-old Taniel Herberger-Brown allegedly killed 35-year-old Christopher Hurston. According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Hurston’s decomposed body was found in Herberger-Brown’s Chapman Street apartment on April 22.

Herberger-Brown left the area and was tracked to Albany.

Due to the condition of Hurston’s body, the medical examiner was unable to determine the exact cause of death.

Herberger-Brown also faces three counts of assault and battery, two counts of kidnapping and unlawful possession of ammunition in connection with crimes against another victim that allegedly took place at his apartment in February.

He was also charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property in connection with the damage to his apartment and laundry room in March and April of this year.

Herberger-Brown was held without bail pending a hearing set for January 7, 2025.
