Hawaii woman Hannah Kobayashi reported missing after flying to Los Angeles en route to New York

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A 30-year-old Maui woman has been missing since flying to Los Angeles a week ago, and her family is asking for the public’s help in finding her.

Hanna Kobayashi was scheduled to continue on to New York after a brief stopover at Los Angeles International Airport.

But she obviously missed that connecting flight. Her family says the last they heard from her were several mysterious text messages in which she said someone was trying to steal her identity.

Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, flew to Los Angeles to help look for her.

“She was in Europe, Japan, but there was never a time when she didn’t talk to anybody,” he told Eyewitness News.

He says that after Hannah missed her flight to New York last Friday night, she began sending strange text messages to family members that mentioned a “spiritual awakening,” apologized for being crazy, and then wrote: “it was definitely intercepted.”

Even worse, Hannah texted another friend that someone might be trying to steal her money and personal information.

“She felt she was in danger,” her father said. “She thought someone was trying to find out her identity or phone number.”

Hannah’s aunt, Larry Pidgeon, said the behavior was unlike her niece, who was planning to attend the event in New York.

“She is very responsible. She was really looking forward to this event. She had booked a hotel room for a couple of thousand dollars, a ticket to the event cost a couple of hundred dollars.”

Some clues to her possible whereabouts have come from social media sleuths. The photo was posted on Hannah’s Instagram account over the weekend. Some of Aunt Hannah’s social media followers were able to deduce that the photo was taken at an event at The Grove. Additional detectives discovered a YouTube video showing Hanna.

Her phone last pinged at LAX, but is now dead.

Family members say they have filed a missing person report with both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Police Department and are launching their own search for Hannah.

“We just hope she’s safe and well and alive,” her father said. “And if anyone knows anything, any help would be greatly appreciated.”
