man in custody after kidnapping, assault on man, participant in fatal accident of son

An Altoona man is behind bars after kidnapping and assaulting another person involved in his son’s fatal car crash, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to UPMC Altoona shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday after the victim told medical personnel he had just been assaulted.

Officials said the victim told police he was sitting outside the Sheetz on Chestnut Avenue when a man, identified as 34-year-old Dustin Price, arrived in a Cadillac SUV and confronted the victim.

The criminal complaint says the victim told police he had recently been involved in a car accident that killed Price’s son.

Police said Price ordered the victim to get into his car or he was “going to blow his head off.”

According to the criminal complaint, the victim entered Price’s vehicle because he feared for his safety.

Police said the victim did not see the gun at this time and that Price ordered the victim to tell the victim about his son’s accident.

The criminal complaint says Price drove the victim to a home in the 300 block of Lexington Avenue, where they met with a member of Price’s family.

The victim began to explain what happened during the crash when Price punched the victim in the ear and left side of the head, police said.

The criminal complaint says the victim threw her Sheetz bag at Price before fleeing the scene to UPMC Altoona.

After arriving at the hospital, the victim spotted Price circling around, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, police obtained security camera video from Sheetz that shows Price approaching the victim with his hand inside the hoodie where it remained during the conversation, with the video corroborating the interaction as described by the victim.

Officials said police arrived at the Lexington Avenue home where they contacted a family member of Price who told them three people were talking on the back porch of the residence and that nothing physical happened before the victim left the scene events

The criminal complaint states that police obtained video from UPMC Altoona that shows Price driving up to the residence and the victim fleeing the scene moments later.

The video corroborates the victim’s account of Price circling around as the victim entered the hospital, police said.

Online court documents show Price faces one count of kidnapping with intent to terrorize, one count of terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault and one count of stalking.

Court documents also show Price is currently being held at the Blair County Jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 20.
