Kolkata: The Eastern Railway (ER) achieved a record freight movement of 54.888 million tonnes from April to October in FY2024-25, up 22.4 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year, an official statement said. on Wednesday

ER’s freight profit rose 30.68 percent to Rs 5,102.46 crore against Rs 3,904.34 crore earned in the corresponding period (April-October) of the previous fiscal, it said.

ER recorded total cargo loadings of 54.888 million tonnes from April to October 2024, up 22.4% from the 44.843 million tonnes handled in the same period last financial year, it said.

Coal accounted for the bulk of the total cargo load, with a total of 38.947 million tonnes loaded between April and October 2024, he adds.
