The title of Tom Cruise’s eighth film “Mission Impossible” has finally become known, as well as the first trailer.

“The Final Reckoning” is now the official title for “Mission: Impossible 8,” which was originally slated to be “Part Two” to 2023’s “Dead Reckoning.” The release of the film is scheduled for May 23, 2025. The film was originally slated for a 2022 release, but was pushed back several times due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.

Cruz unveiled the title and poster on Monday morning, along with the caption, “Every choice led to this.”

In the action-packed trailer, Cruise scuba dives and explores a wrecked submarine, flies in and out of a biplane, and runs a lot. It has also been revealed that Angela Bassett has returned to the role of CIA Director Erica Sloane after her first appearance in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

In “Dead Reckoning,” Cruise’s Ethan Hunt finds himself up against a dangerous artificial intelligence program called The Entity that seems to anticipate his every move and could wreak havoc if it falls into the wrong hands. After escaping the horrific train wreck at the end of the film, Ethan realizes that the Entity is hidden aboard an old Russian submarine, but an enemy from Ethan’s past named Gabriel (Esay Morales) is also on the trail.

Morales returns for the upcoming film, alongside Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Cerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga and Indira Varma. Newcomers to the franchise include Hannah Weddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katie O’Brian, Nick Offerman and Tramell Tillman.

Christopher McQuarrie returns as director and co-writer after directing Rogue Nation, Aftermath and Dead Payback. He previously collaborated with Cruise on the Jack Reacher franchise as well as Top Gun: Maverick. McQuarrie, Bruce Heller and Eric Jendresen wrote the screenplay. Produced by Cruise and McQuarrie. Chris Brock, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Tommy Gormley, Don Granger and Susan Novick are executive producers and Gina Hallas is a co-producer.
