In its first season, Minot North is WDA’s top team in Class AA | News, Sports, Work

On Friday, October 25th, the Minot North football team hosted Valley City in a win-all game and overcame first quarter mistakes and penalties that both teams faced to earn a home win and move into first place in the standings Associations of West Dakota (WDA). in a postseason game next week. The 42-21 victory was just what the Sentinels needed.

Valley City scored first with four minutes left in the first quarter. Both teams moved the ball in the center of the field, but the “High-Liners” appeared on the scoreboard first. With just 31 seconds left in the first quarter, Minot North was able to take the lead and never looked back.

With the score 7-6 in favor of the Sentinels, the next shot gave the visitors 31 seconds to turn the ball over. On the first play from scrimmage, a Sentinel quarterback sacked a defender and returned the ball at the 17-yard line. Minot North opened the second quarter with their second touchdown of the game and a 14-6 lead.

The home team added another score in the second quarter to take a 21-6 lead into the half. With seven minutes left in the third quarter, Minot North scored again for a 28-6 lead and it looked like the game was over.

Valley City showed why they were fighting for the top spot late in the third quarter, scoring twice to cut the Sentinels’ lead to 28-21 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Minot North didn’t shy away from the challenge and added a score with two minutes to play on their fourth and final touchdown with six minutes left in the game.

With the win, Minot North finished its first year on the varsity team as the WDA’s top seed and will host fourth-seeded Devils Lake (5-4) from the East in the first round of the playoffs on Friday, Nov. 1 at Sentinels Stadium.

With two seeds, Valley City will host third seed Wahpeton from the East on the same day.

GF Red River 27,

Devil’s Lake 0

The number four seed in Class AA hosted the top seed when the Grand Forks Red River football team traveled to Devils Lake. The unbeaten Red River group led throughout the game and relieved the hosts of away scores. A loss could open the door for Minot North to move up in the rankings starting in postseason play.

Red River, the top seed from the East, will host the fourth seed from the West, St. Mary’s, next Friday.

WF Horace 34, Fargo South 20

The number four team in Class AA, the West Fargo Horace, hosted Fargo South and had their hands full. Horace led 7-5 in the opening minutes of the second half before going on a rampage.

The home team, Horace, jumped out to a 21-5 lead late in the third quarter, only to see the visitors claw their way back into the game. Horace led 27-20 with just under two minutes to play, but was able to score a final touchdown before time expired for the win.

As the second seed from the East, WF Horace will host the third seed from the West, Jamestown next Friday.

Jamestown 34,

Watford City 16

Class AA fifth-ranked Jamestown traveled to Watford City and fell behind the home team early as the Wolves led 16-0 after one quarter and held a 16-14 advantage at the half.

Jamestown overcame the road trips to take a 20-16 lead with ten minutes to play in the third quarter and added two more points before the fourth quarter began en route to a 34-16 victory.

On Friday, Jamestown travels to face WF Horace in the first round of postseason play.
