Chisinau, November 9. /TASS/. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova approved the results of the second round of the presidential elections and the victory of the incumbent President Maia Sandu.

“Candidate Maya Sandu, nominated by the Party of Action and Solidarity, who received the largest number of votes in the second round (930,139), is declared elected,” said the head of the CEC Anzhelika Karaman, reading aloud the draft resolution that was adopted. unanimously

She also informed that the decree enters into force from today and will be sent to the Constitutional Court for approval. It can be appealed to the Court of Appeal of Chisinau within three days.

According to the CEC, Sandu won 55.33% of the vote in the second round, ahead of the opposition candidate Oleksandr Stoyanoglo. However, in Moldova itself, Stojanoglo received 51%. His opponent won thanks to the votes of more than 300,000 Moldovan labor migrants, for whom the authorities opened more than 200 polling stations in EU countries.

The CEC received numerous complaints about violations, in particular abuse of administrative resources and organized transport of voters, but they were rejected. Stojanoglo previously admitted defeat.

The elections were held against the backdrop of an economic crisis caused by rising energy prices and opposition protests, to which the authorities responded with repressive measures. Thus, 14 TV channels, which were a tribune for the opposition, were accused of threatening national security and closed. Criminal cases were initiated against their leaders. About 1,000 people were searched during the election campaign.
