The autumn holidays were the heyday of Hungarian tourism

Hungary’s tourist facilities welcomed half a million guests during the autumn holidays, which is 16 percent more than during last year’s holidays, the Hungarian Tourism Agency reported on Thursday.

Those travelers spent about 1.2 million guest nights in tourist accommodations between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3, up 11 percent from a year earlier, bookings recorded by the National Center for Travel Data Services (NTAK) show.

During this period, more than 250,000 foreign tourists visited Hungary. About 170,000 visitors spent more than 400,000 guest nights in the capital. The rest spent about 280,000 nights in other places, such as the resort towns of Eger, Zalakaros, Gyula, Hévíz and Hajduszoboszló.

The largest number of foreign visitors came from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Romania and Great Britain.

During the break, income from tourist accommodation amounted to HUF 29 billion, which is 24% more than last year’s school holidays. Income from accommodation in Budapest amounted to HUF 11.4 billion from the total amount.
