Noida: 2 sisters attack elderly man for dropping dog in park

Noida: An elderly man and his daughter-in-law were allegedly publicly assaulted by two sisters for letting a pet dog off the leash at a playground in a Noida high-rise in Sector 78 on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

According to the man’s statement, a criminal case of assault and intimidation was registered in the 113 police department. But after the sisters apologized to him, a compromise was reached on Friday morning.

A 45-second video of the incident was widely shared on social media, sparking public outrage. It allegedly shows two women beating an elderly man and can be heard shouting: “How dare you touch me?” and says “slap you” in Hindi.

HT was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the video.

The investigation revealed that on Thursday at around 9.30pm, two sisters (names withheld by police) from Tower X in Hyde Park were walking their dogs at the society’s premises. “Near the playground, one of the sisters, a law student, dropped her pet from its leash. Residents noticed the dog roaming freely in the playground and objected,” said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, adding that when the animal approached the three-year-old child of a resident of Tower V, the mother yelled at them and one of the sisters slapped the woman.

“On hearing loud voices, the woman’s in-laws came to the spot and tried to calm the situation,” the officer said, adding that when the woman’s elderly father-in-law stopped the fight, one of the sisters hit him twice.

Later, the victim’s family informed the police by calling the emergency number 112, and the sector 113 brigade arrived.

“We provided the police with all the CCTV footage and other footage taken by the residents and accompanied the pensioner to the police station… It is strictly forbidden to let the dog off the premises of the society as it can be dangerous for children. We were informed that two sisters live in rented accommodation. We have asked their owner to vacate the flat as soon as possible as any inconvenience inside the public premises is unacceptable,” said Amit Gupta, secretary, Hyde Park Flat Owners Association.

“A case under section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against the two sisters on Friday morning on the complaint of an elderly man. But after the girls tendered a written apology, the case was compromised,” Krishna Gopal Sharma, Station Officer, Sector 113.
