During the fire in the police station, a man died while being detained

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A man in custody was killed and a village police officer was injured in a fire at the Mountain Village Police Department early Friday morning.

There were state troops informed about the fire around 6:30 a.m. on Friday. Mountain Village is about 110 miles northwest of Bethel.

Police say two men were detained at the police station during the fire — one was evacuated, and the other was later found dead.

The injured officer is being treated for minor injuries at the Bethel District Hospital.

The Alaska State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Officers will identify the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
