Two injured in two separate shootings within an hour near Legion Field

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – Two people were shot at two different locations within an hour of each other in Birmingham Friday afternoon, Birmingham police said.

Around 2:19 p.m., Birmingham police said they responded to a call about a person shot in the 200 block of 8th Avenue West.

When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to UAB Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Birmingham police say a preliminary investigation revealed a physical altercation between the victim and the suspect, and that’s when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

There was already a heavy officer presence in the area, so Birmingham Police were able to quickly respond to the scene and take the suspect into custody without incident.

Birmingham police say the incident did not happen at Legion Field.

About an hour later, at 3:18 p.m., Birmingham police were called to the 800 block of W 7th Street for a report of a person shot.

It is reported that the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the second incident.

Birmingham police say there are no suspects in the second shooting.
