A Trojan woman is accused of driving drunk with a baby in the car

October 22. A local woman is facing multiple charges for allegedly fleeing police while driving while intoxicated with an infant in the vehicle.

Reyna Trinity Norman is charged with felony child endangerment or, in the alternative, felony DUI, two counts of criminal endangerment, fleeing from police and disorderly conduct.

Norman is being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center on $40,000 bond. She pleaded not guilty to all charges during her arraignment Monday in District Court.

She faces up to 10 years in a Montana state prison on the endangerment charge. Norman’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 12.

According to an additional account by County Deputy Ben Fisher, his shift was about to end on Oct. 5 when a distress call came in at a local store. The caller said a silver 2011 Chevy Impala was headed toward Troy at a high rate of speed. . Deputy Joshua Brabo headed to the store while Fisher tried to locate the car.

Fisher said the vehicle was traveling approximately 75 mph on US 2 when it entered a 60 mph zone near the weigh station at the Highway 56 intersection.

The vehicle then slowed and turned left before turning right onto Silver Tip Way. Fisher then received reports of an infant in the vehicle and slowed the pursuit “so as not to push the driver into a more serious situation.”

Fisher then reported that the Impala was unable to safely make the 90-degree turn where Silver Tip Way turns onto Hummingbird Lane. The car went off the pavement, nearly hit a large boulder, drove onto a dirt embankment, then hit another large rock and returned to the road. He turned 90 degrees in front of Fisher’s patrol car.

In the charging document, Fisher said he swerved his vehicle to block the Impala. He stopped and the woman got out of the driver’s seat and went to the rear driver’s side door. Fisher ordered everyone to show him their hands, and they did, except for a woman later identified as Norman. When Fisher tried to handcuff her, she reportedly tried to break away from him and try to make a phone call.

Fisher said he knew the two adult occupants of the car from previous interactions with law enforcement officers. Sergeant Luke Hauke then arrived on the scene. Both officers reported signs that Norman might be under the influence.

Some field tests showed the woman was under the influence of alcohol, and a breath test allegedly showed a blood alcohol content of 0.191.

After a verbal altercation, Fisher forced Norman to call a relative to pick up her seven-month-old daughter.

Fisher said he took Norman to the county jail. A second breath test showed a BAC level of 0.168.

Brabo’s report detailed a disturbance at the store that included a verbal dispute between a store employee and Norman. The employee thought Norman was under the influence of drugs. The employee said she was discussing the Halloween candy bowl before a disagreement began over the difference between Halloween and the fall season. The employee said Norman became verbally aggressive and she feared for her safety before escorting the accused out of the store.

During the chase, officers learned that Norman was on probation.

Brabo then joined other officers at the scene of the arrest. He took care of the child before a family member arrived to pick up the child.
