Greater Fall River Election 2024: Questions, Candidates and Information

The 2024 election season is almost over and voters on the South Coast are gearing up on Tuesday to elect the President of the United States and making important decisions that can affect generations.

In addition to presidential and congressional races on the ballot, local voters will also be able to choose who they want to represent them on Beacon Hill and in county government.

They will also have a direct impact on state laws answering the five questions of the referendum.

Polling stations are open on Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Are you just catching up on what’s at stake? Here’s everything you need to know.

Who is running for the US Senate?

Incumbent Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren faces a challenge from Republican Attorney General John Deaton.

Warren, the first woman elected as a state senator, is asking voters for a third six-year term, citing the $20 billion in federal funds she helped provide for state infrastructure projects and the votes she took to tackle inflation and price increases and lower drug costs .

Deaton, a millionaire attorney with a practice in Rhode Island, a Marine Corps veteran and former solicitor general, moved to Massachusetts this year when he ran for office. He said he would pledge not to support any national ban on abortion and said a cornerstone of his platform is the creation of nationwide financial literacy courses.

Who is running for the House of Representatives?

US Democrat Jake Auchincloss, who represents District 4, is running unopposed.

US Democrat Bill Keating, who represents the 9th District, faces Republican Dan Sullivan. Keating has been a representative since 2011 and previously served as Norfolk County District Attorney and in both houses of the state legislature since 1977. He said his goals are to protect the rights of all Americans and invest in infrastructure. Sullivan, a registered nurse, said she will focus on affordability in Massachusetts, migrants and affordable housing.

Who is running to represent Greater Fall River at the state level?

Several people running for Beacon Hill seats are unopposed, including state Sen. Michael Rodriguez and state Reps. Stephen Howitt, Carol Fiola and Alan Silvia.

Democratic state Rep. Pat Haddad, who represents Bristol’s 5th District, is being challenged by Republican Justin Thurber. Haddad has been in office since 2001 and has said she prioritizes education, clean energy and seniors. Thurber, an Air Force veteran, said he would focus on immigrants, high taxes and business regulations.

Democratic Congressman Paul Schmid, who represents Bristol’s 8th District, has decided not to run. Five candidates are running for his place: Democrat Stephen Ouellette, Republican Christopher Thrasher and independents Laura Hadley, Manuel Soares Jr. and Jesse St. Gelais.

What referendum questions are included in the state ballot?

Will there be early voting today?

No, early voting ended on Friday. If you didn’t vote by mail or vote early, Tuesday is your last chance.

Can I return a mailed ballot before Election Day?

Ballots sent by mail must be received by the city or town polling station before election day. If you still have a mailed ballot, it is unlikely that it will be processed and delivered by the postal service in time for Tuesday; hand over personally to the election commission.
