Jerry Jones changed his tune on the Cowboys at the trade deadline weeks late

Jerry Jones changed his tune on the Cowboys at the trade deadline weeks late

Now Jerry Jones wants to show urgency. He just waited for his beloved Dallas Cowboys really on the verge of solving.

Not before things got this bad. Not when things were bad. Now, with that season seemingly over, Jones decides it’s time to make a move.

“We’ll probably do a few things this week. I’m a long way from being upset by this team this year,” said Jones, pro Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but it’s too late for that. This team has not been good for a few weeks now. Duck Prescott had no assist in offense all year. The Run game is in the gutter and CeeDee Lamb can only do so much. Not to mention Prescott and Lamb left Sunday’s game with injuries.

So why now? How was Atlanta worse than it was in Week 2, when the New Orleans Saints, who were on a seven-game losing streak, beat the Cowboys 44-19?

It’s been bad news for the Cowboys for weeks now, thanks for finally admitting that Jones. Unfortunately, it’s a bit late to call. These calls should have already been made. Now you are behind the eight. Just like you all season.

There are actually some good options for the Cowboys to add some depth and become competitive again. But the heavy hitters have already been moved. DeAndre HopkinsAmari Cooper and Dionte Johnson were players that could help this offense.

They blew those players, but some are still there who can make a difference. First, they could ask about Tee Higgins.

Maybe see if Tennessee wants to release Tyler Boyd. Maybe Jacksonville will decide they can do without it Travis Etienne. But these are last-second climbs that can fall apart.

Defensively, there’s more opportunity to make some last-minute moves because that’s inevitable for the Cowboys if they hope to do anything moving forward. They need help in the pass rush, perhaps an interior lineman or a safety who could stop the run. And they need secondary help.

This is an injury-depleted team with only a few days to fight for the scraps to make things work. The Browns would be a good start for some secondary help and pass help. Although there may not be enough time to join the battle for Za’Darius Smith.

This is what happens when you focus on the wrong things. It was good that the Cowboys re-signed their main offensive linemen in Lamb and Prescott. But at the same time, they had to look at what other needs were needed to be competitive this year.

And Jones’ stubbornness could cost them a chance to make significant moves before Tuesday’s deadline.
