A pedestrian is in critical condition after a crash in southeast Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car near a busy Colorado Springs intersection Saturday night.

Springs police were called to South Academy near Chelton at 8:45 p.m. for reports of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

“Upon arrival, the pedestrian was unresponsive in the northbound lanes of Academy Boulevard,” said CSPD Lt.

Police say the driver appears to have taken off. The lieutenant tells 11 News. Officers at the scene said the driver stopped, but it may have been a bystander. Currently, the road accident is classified as a hit-and-run.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and remains there, according to the latest police report.

South Academy was placed on lockdown for several hours Saturday night while CSPD’s Major Crash Team investigated the scene. At the time of writing, it is unknown what led to the accident and whether the driver or the pedestrian was at fault.
