WALLER, Texas (KTRK) — One person is dead after a speeding vehicle crashed on FM 362 and plunged into a body of water early Sunday morning, police said.

The video above is from ABC13’s 24/7 live coverage.

The Waller police chief said the car was going more than 120 miles per hour at 3 a.m. when it hit an embankment, went through a fence and landed in a pond off Cameron Road.

Authorities said they initially tried to follow the car, but called off the pursuit for safety reasons. When they eventually caught up with the car, they reported finding it underwater with the female driver inside.

According to the police chief, a firefighter and an officer worked to extricate the woman, but she was already dead.

Authorities have not released the identity of the woman.
