Police are hunting a group of people, including two women, who were caught on CCTV moments before a man was beaten and whipped with a belt during a brutal street robbery.

The victim, a man in his 40s, had just finished work and stopped to buy cigarettes when five men and two women approached him.

The footage shows the man trying to run away but being chased by men and women in tow on St James’s Street in Nottingham.

The victim fell over a curb, was kicked and punched in the “cowardly” attack and then had her wedding ring stolen outside Fusion nightclub at around 4am on September 7.

Footage released by Nottinghamshire Police shows one of the thugs removing the belt he used to flog the man as he lay on the ground.

Apart from the ring the victim had just bought for his partner, the attackers also stole his mobile phone and a bag containing a DJII Mini Pro remote control drone.

Officers showed surveillance footage showing two curly-haired women standing near the victim before the robbery.

Sergeant Ethan Spinks, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a horrific and cowardly attack on a member of the public and we are determined to ensure that those responsible are caught and brought to justice.

“As a result of this attack, the victim dislocated his shoulder and suffered severe cuts and bruises on his body when he was kicked and punched.

“He was also whipped with a belt. The suspects then decided to take things that did not belong to them, including the man’s wedding ring, drone and mobile phone.

“This level of violence is completely unacceptable on the streets of Nottingham and we are taking every step to find those responsible.

“Over the past month, we have been conducting a number of investigations, but we have not yet been able to find the culprits.

“Now we are asking the population for help. We have posted images of several people who may be able to assist us with our inquiries.

“Please take a look at the CCTV footage we have released today. Do you know the people in this shot? Are you one of the people in this shot? Please contact us as soon as possible.”
