The Capital Region is raising funds for the River Arts District in Asheville, North Carolina

COLONIE, N.Y. (WNYT) – A group of musicians from the Capital Region will perform at a fundraiser to benefit the River Arts District in Asheville, North Carolina.

Mission Possible – Music with a Mission was organized by Pearly Russo, jazz vocalist for the Sonny and Pearly Quintet, who says the money raised will go to White horse, Black Mountaina nonprofit organization in North Carolina with a venue featuring local artists, according to their website.

“The hurricane was hard on the entire city of Asheville, but it hit the arts community especially hard,” Russo said. “We hope that through our music we can bring people together and raise funds to help artists and musicians get back on their feet.”

Asheville was an area in North Carolina that was particularly hard hit by the flooding caused by Hurricane Helen in early October. One woman spoke to NewsChannel 13’s Steve Kuzy about she and her daughter are leaving Asheville to stay with extended family after their community was destroyed.

The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, November 10th at Margarita City in Colon from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. Admission is $20 at the door.

Mission Possible-Music With a Mission features The Sonny and Perley Jazz Quintet, The McKrells, Shine Hill Road, The Kid’s Peace Pan Band, Franklin Micare, Cosmo’s Moon, vocalists Jeanine Ouderkirk, Laura Roth, Bronte Roma and Donna Trunzo and hip-hop recording artist Manchild Jones, Banjo Burt and friends Local artist Judy Silvano will present a live improvisational painting.
