Baby dead, woman in critical condition after Toronto house fire – CP24

A baby has died and a woman is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after they were pulled from a burning house in the city’s west overnight.

Firefighters were called to a home on Tretheway Drive, north of Eglinton Avenue, shortly after 1am.

Arriving crews found heavy smoke and flames on the back deck and inside the home. Pictures from the scene show smoke pouring from the building and firefighters climbing onto the roof.

Several occupants of the home were already outside when firefighters arrived, Toronto Fire said.

Toronto paramedics said they transported a pediatric patient to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, as well as an adult with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. Four other patients were seen at the scene without transport.

“On behalf of all the men and women of the Toronto Fire Service, I want to express our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this extremely tragic fire, especially the one involving a young child,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jim Jessop. scene early on Friday.

According to Jessop, there were six people in the house when the fire broke out. The relationship between the woman and the baby, who were taken out of the house, has not yet been clarified.

Jessop said it was too early to say whether the fire might be suspicious.

Fire crews remain on scene to monitor hot spots.

A section of Kiel Street was closed in the area due to the fire, but has since reopened.
