Colombian authorities are arresting active and retired military personnel for arms trafficking

BOGOTA, Colombia — Colombian authorities on Saturday arrested a group of nine active and retired soldiers on arms-trafficking charges stemming from a broader investigation into a grenade attack last year in the capital.

Colombia’s army said in a statement that those arrested included three NCOs and two soldiers, as well as four retired soldiers. All are accused of conspiracy.

The Army’s Office of Public Information told The Associated Press that materials the group allegedly trafficked included ammunition, weapons and uniforms.

The investigation is linked to an attack last year at a toll booth in Bogotá, in which authorities later determined the grenades belonged to the army. No one was injured in the attack.

The arrests are the second in months involving the arms trade of military personnel.
