Portland police release body camera footage of hit-and-run suspect destroys patrol car

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Newly released body camera footage taken by the Portland Police Department shows a suspected drunken driver side-swiping an officer’s patrol car Wednesday night.

The incident occurred while the trooper was parked in the right lane of Interstate 5 responding to an accident with his headlights on.

The footage shows the moment when another driver hits the officer’s car, throwing him forward.

Police charged the driver, who stopped after the collision, and was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and other offenses. According to law enforcement officers, the policeman received minor injuries.
