Course

At the start, runners start at 98 feet at the entrance to the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge. From there, they’ll face the course’s steepest incline as they scale a span that peaks at 260 feet.

Runners will then pass through Bay Ridge and along Sunset Park. Then they will pass along the south and north parts of Williamsburg. When they reach the Pulaski Bridge, at about the 13 mile mark, they will have reached the halfway mark.

They will then go up into Queens and cross the Queensboro Bridge at miles 15 and 16. As they exit the bridge and turn right onto Manhattan’s First Avenue at 59th Street, they’ll be greeted by perhaps the largest crowd of fans you’ll ever see and the loudest cheers they’ll hear until they hit Central Park at mile 24.

They’ll run down First Avenue into the Bronx for miles 20-21, then cross back into Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood and head down Fifth Avenue to Central Park, where they’ll enter the park at miles 24 and 25, with a grand finish at 67th Street and West Drive.

Facilities for runners

There will be kilometer markers at every mile, and kilometer markers every 5 kilometers.

All course clocks will be set according to wave 1.

Timing mats will be located at the start, every 5km, halfway (13.1 miles), 20 miles and the finish.

Purified water will be available at official fluid stations every mile from mile 3 to mile 25, except miles 5, 7 and 9.

Gatorade Endurance Formula in lemon and lime flavor will be available at official fluid stations every mile from miles 3 through 25, excluding miles 5, 7 and 9.

Liquids will be poured into compostable glasses. There will be tables on both sides of the field.

Science in Sport energy gels will be available along the course at miles 12 and 18.

Bananas will be available at 21 miles.

At miles 8, 17, and 22, as well as at the start and finish of the race, there will be private and designated lactation areas that will provide pumping facilities and amenities.

Portable restrooms (including those that are wheelchair accessible) are located at every mile starting at mile 3.

Medical aid stations will be located approximately every mile, starting at mile 3 and ending at the finish line.

Finish

The finish of the TCS New York Marathon is an exciting and emotional moment for runners.

When they cross the finish line, MarathonFoto will take their photos and videos.

Shortly thereafter, they will receive a medal, a post-race poncho, and a TCS New York City Marathon Runner Recovery Bag donated by the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Medical assistance will be available at the finish line and throughout the post-finish area.

Because so many people will be using their cell phones, saturation may prevent people from using their phones in and around the finish area.

Runners are encouraged to meet outside of the runners-only area. Friends and family can follow runners with the TCS New York City Marathon app.
